Lot Essay

Hilary Pyle (loc. cit.) comments on the present work: 'An evocative study of Sligo at evening, two men with bowler hats talking by the river, with the town behind them and Ben Bulben in the right background. The glow of light irradiating the sky from below, and making the mass of mountain appear transparent, is reflected in the water. Its effect is sensitively interpreted throughout the picture'.
