Concertina album (disbound) of thirty-nine albumen prints, sizes from approx. 4 x 5.5/8 in. or the reverse to 4 x 5½ in. or the reverse, some with tissue guards, black lacquer boards decorated with rickshaw scene and with ivory onlay, 6 x 7¾ in.

Lot Essay

The illustration shows a portrait of Queen Min (1851-95), who was the last queen of Korea and was assassinated by the Japanese in 1895. This is believed to be her only known photograph. Other subjects include formal and informal family portraits, temple scenes, adult and child labourers, scenes of village life, street scenes and temple views.
