Lot Essay

Kazmaier wrote "Coco Chanel brought her own chair with her, and later even a carved Pompadour screen. She hadn't been photographed for years. Indeed, she really only wanted to model her favourite dress, having seen it worn properly by none of her own mannequins. In the curve of the armchair the master of shadow modelled her face as flat and white, inimitable."
