Lot Essay

An old inscription on the backing paper identifies the sitter as a member of the Sennevoy-Lépine family. The miniature of a gentleman from this family also by Le Tellier is illustrated in N. Keil, Die Miniaturen der Albertina in Wien, Vienna, 1977, no. 92.
