Lot Essay

Drawing from the worlds of Japanese anime and computer-generated animation, Takashi Murakami's sculptures oscillate between physical reality and their cyberform counterparts. As in "Project KO 2," his work stands uncomfortably between children's play characters and the sexual nature of this face of popular culture. These juxtapositions offer a fresh interpretation of pop imagery and the increasingly blurred boundaries of fantasy and reality.
