A FINE TURQUOISE BEIJING GLASS TRIPOD CENSER
INCISED QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD

The censer is supported on short pointed feet supporting the compressed globular body, the everted mouthrim flanked on either side with an arched handle, the metal of opaque pale turquoise tone with lighter swirls suffused throughout

Lot Essay

A simialr turquoise glass tripod censer also with a Qianlong mark from the collection of Robert Hatfield Ellesworth is illustrated in Clear as Crystal, Red as Flame, no. 34. Compare three other examples of similar form, one of pink glass from the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Zhongguo Meishu Quanji, vol. 10, no. 254; a yellow glass censer included in the exhibition, In Pursuit of Antiquities, 1995, Catalogue, no. 207; and a mint-green censer sold in these Rooms, 29 September 1992, lot 916.
