The exterior of the brushpot decorated with carved mother-of-pearl, stained bone and hardstones to form two birds perched on a bamboo branch among a gnarled prunus branch issuing prunus blossoms, the base and exterior mouthrim bound with silver band (some hardstone losses replaced)

Lot Essay

Compare the present lot with another brushpot of a different type of wood but similarly decorated with inlaid stones with a bird on prunus branches, included in the Hong Kong Museum of Art exhibition, Splendour of the Qing Dynasty, 1992, Catalogue, no. 281.
