Each with birds perched on flowering branches with Chinese characters , numbered '52', '55' and '14', in bamboo and gilt frames

Lot Essay

The inscriptions on the paintings are the Chinese names for the birds depicted. The illustrated painting is of a 'young swallow' and the others depict a 'Hunan water bird', a 'mountain millet swallow' and a 'white-faced genius'.
Two similar watercolours of birds were sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 26 June 1986, lots 4 and 5.
