"In 1956, Popovi Da began working with his mother, Maria Martinez. She changed her signature at this time from 'Marie' back to 'Maria.' Together they signed, 'Maria and Popovi.' He began dating each pot and numbering each pot...The pots signed Maria/Popovi were made by Maria and painted by Popovi," (Schaaf, 2000, p. 166).
