"Russell Sanchez was born at San Ildefonso Pueblo. When he was about twelve, his Aunt Rose Gonzales began to guide and encourage him in pottery making...Dora Tse-Pé also encouraged Russell. While he observed Dora and others, Russell developed his own technique," (Schaaf, 2000, p. 222).
