Lot Essay

Copies of letters written by General Francis Henry French between 1879 and 1880 accompany this lot. The letters document General French's life on the frontier and detail how blankets such as this one would have been bartered for.

This blanket is woven with a cloth dyed bayeta, which is referred to by U.S. Holster as a Manchester bayeta.
