This drawing is number two from the Duke of Portland "Album Unique."
The inscription on the reverse reads as follows:
"Pawnee
Le-shaw-loo-lah-le-hoo. (the Big Elk) a secondary
chief, wearing a beautifully ornamented robe, and smo-
king a long and handsome pipe. His headdress made of
War Eagles plumes.
As the War Eagle of that country con-
quers all other varities of the Eagle Spe-
-cies the Indians set a high value
on the tail feathers of that valiant
bird, to adorn the heads of the brave,
none others are allowed to wear them."
