The rounded rectangular crossbanded hinged top with a green baize-lined playing-surface above a well, the panelled frieze with rope-twist band on an octagonal baluster support with upspringing foliage, on a gadrooned band and concave-sided quadripartite base with four scrolled square tapering feet and brass caps

Lot Essay

This card-table, with Grecian palm-wrapped baluster on altar-plinth in the manner of card-tables in the George IV antique style, is illustrated in George Smith's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1862, and Peter Nicholson's Practical Cabinet-Maker, 1826 (E. White, British 18th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1990, p. 491).
