RENARD, Louis. Poissons Ecrevisses et Crabes, de diverses couleurs et figures extraordinaires, que l'on trouve autour des Isles Moluques, et sur les Côtes des Terres Australes. Amsterdam: Reinier & Josué Ottens, 1754. 2o. 2 vols. in one. 100 engraved hand-colored plates (including one folding) after Samuel Fallours and others (first vol. with tear to plate 26 and short tear to title). Contemporary calf (spine ends and edges worn). Second edition. A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED WORK ON FISH AND CRABS OF THE EAST INDIES. Fallours is acknowledged as the artist of the illustrations in the second vol., but is also responsible for some of the illustrations in the first vol. At the time of publication the illustrations in the work were viewed as fable and fantasy products. Although some of the illustrations are exaggerated, all of them seem to be based on nature.
