Several figure paintings of similar subject matter by the hand of Gu Jianlong have been recorded, amongst which the well known "Magu xi shou tu": depiction of the Female Immortal Magu, signifying longevity, which was executed in the 5th year of the Chongzhen reign period, i.e. 1633. This painting is recorded in Biographies of painters from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Gu Jianlong [zi: Yun Chen (also Yun Cheng)] was a native from what is now known as Jiangsu province. A follower of Qiu Ying (ca. 1495-1552), he was known for his paintings of figures and flowers, and for historical paintings. Gu was also very adept at copying old masters and served as a court painter during the Kangxi reign period.
