cover 1857/58 envelope inscribed "Via Marseilles" addressed to Honolulu, the obverse with London Paid c.d.s. and Liverpool transit marks of 3rd and 4th September 1858 and fine red framed "Returned for/Postage" (with "8/7" added in manuscript), the reverse showing two strikes of a small red London c.d.s. (one clearly dated 23 March 1858) and light strike of the black double-ring "SINGAPORE/P.O." c.d.s. apparently showing month date "FEB" but with year slug unclear, pencil filing notes on the front indicate "Nov. 1857"; slightly trimmed and small tear at left. An enigmatic item with the point of departure and routing most unclear!. Photo
