EINSTEIN ON JEWISH HUMOR: "FOR THE CHEERFUL ONE HAS TO STRIVE, WHILE THE SAD COMES BY ITSELF". Einstein responds to the Rabbi's gift of his anthology of Jewish humor: "Dear Sir, I thank you with pleasure for the transmittal of your work. You are completely correct in your choice of subject matter. For the cheerful, one has to strive, while the sad comes by itself [Um das frölich muss man sich bemühen, das Traurige kommt schon von selbst.] Thus your book deserves to be in the jewish house, especially in view of today's states of mind."
