Winner Take Nothing was issued on 27 October 1933. Six of the 14 stories were previously unpublished, making this galley setting their first appearance in print: "The Light of the World," "A Way You'll Never Be," "The Mother of a Queen," "One Reader Writes," "A Day's Wait," and "Fathers and Sons." Among the other eight stories (seven appearing here for the first time in a book) are: "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place," "Wine of Wyoming," and "The Gambler, the Nun, and the Radio." In the galleys there is a misspelling ("son" for "soon") on page 83 underlined in pencil (by Hemingway?) which was corrected in the published text. Two other pencilled corrections (by Hemingway?), "staid" to "stayed" on page 99 and "ask" to "asked" on page 100, were not made in the book. Aside from a few corrections or minor changes, the text of the galleys appears to be essentially identical with that of the published version. See Young and Mann, 22C, for a set of "galley proofs, 51 galleys, pencil corrections, and EH's instructions for different order to the stories" (at the Monroe County Public Library in Key West). SETS OF GALLEYS INSCRIBED BY HEMINGWAY (AND THOSE IN LOTS 289 AND 297) ARE SO RARE THEY SIMPLY ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
