Lot Essay

Alex Fromery was active as an enameller at Berlin in the early 18th century. His work is best known for his unusual use of raised gilding and translucent enamels of figures and reliefs. He also worked with C.F. Herold from approximately 1740-1750. For an example of his work, see W. Holzhausen's article in Der Kunstwanderer (1930-1931), pp. 4 and 78.
