Lot Essay
It is interesting to compare the border design on the present lot to that the Darte Frères claret-ground topographical cup and saucer included in this sale as lot 115.
The gilding has been traditionally ascribed to Boullemier, fils (see the auction catalogue entry pasted to the back of the saucer) but as the painter's marks found on both the cup and the saucer do not correspond to his mark of AB as a dyphthong, this attribution is incorrect.
