The removable gilt-tooled red leather-inset writing surface with molded three-quarter gallery, reversing to a checkered gaming surface and enclosing a recessed backgammon surface, centered front and back by an Apollo mask, each side with a drawer, that on the left fitted, on cabriole legs with acanthus sabots, each headed by a scrolled term applique, bearing a printed paper label inscribed BUREAU EXPEL.../PARIS/C.ULOMMI..., one mount bearing the C-couronné poinçon

Lot Essay

The C couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed in France between March 1745 and February 1749 on any alloy containing copper. Its presence here would indicate that this tric-trac was resold during this period.
