A rare miniature lacquered-brass and black-enamelled transit,
unsigned, circa 1850, the 83/8in. (21.2cm.) long telescope with dust cap, detachable eyepiece, three (of four) crosswire adjusters, the axis with vertical circle, vernier and level, raised on twin supports, with fine adjustment via leaf spring, incorporating the cross-bubble in suspension, with black-enamelled tin lamp, the chimney with window to reflect light through the axis tube, on rectangular-shaped stand with one adjustable and two screw feet and pads -- 11¼in. (28.6cm.) high, when dismantled contained in the original fitted mahogany carrying case -- 9in. (23cm.) wide
