Lot Essay

Falconnier (1811-1876) exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1841 to 1874. He is best known for the present model, celebrating the emancipation of slaves. The plaster model was exhibited at the Salon of 1868 and given to the Musée d'Auxelle by the artist.
