Lot Essay

It is interesting to note that this piece came into the present Collection to commemorate the release of 'Lullaby of Birdland' written by George David Weiss for the consummate jazz pianist George Shearing. 'Have you ever heard two turtle doves, bill and coo, when they love...' See a Private Collection, Sotheby's, New York, 11 March, 1997, lot 308, for a similiarly moulded example.
