Lot Essay

Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717-1777) was the successor to Matthäus Seutter in his Augsburg publishing house. Three of his fine engravings are listed in Zögner; they include the on e here offered as well as one of an armillary sphere and a planetarium (as used as the frontispiece of Lamb and Collins' The World in Your Hands (London, 1994), and a starchart. He was succeeded on his death by his son Matthäus Albrecht (1741-1810).
