The inscription most likely refers to Sir Malcolm Stewart (1872-1951), wealthy industrialist, philanthropist and benefactor. Chairman of London Brick for twenty-five years as well as Chairman of Associated British Portland Cement Manufacturers, he was also the founder of the Stewart Trust, providing homes for retired employees of London Brick. Amongst his other good works he gave an estate at Potton in Bedfordshire to settle unemployed men in smallholdings, and created the garden village of Stewartby for his employees. He was created a baronet in 1937.
