In June 1914, Theodore Roosevelt's son Kermit married Belle Willard, daughter of the U.S. Ambassador to Spain, Joseph E. Willard. Their first son was born eighteen months later. This photograph is therefore inscribed as a Christmas gift from one proud grandparent to another.
