Signed Bunsai, Edo Period (19th Century)
Black lacquer ground; decoration in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with gold nashiji and powder and details in coral and shell; signed Bunsai; shibuichi ishime-ji and gilt fittings; pressed leather plug with blue silk lining and multicoloured and lacquered decoration (some coral missing)
Two terrapins on a rock with waves and plants; the plug with motifs derived from Dutch leather
