Edo period (19th cenutury)
A black persimmon and stagshorn pipecase in the form of a fish with a hole in its tail to take the end of the pipe, the head in stagshorn with a textured band carved with floral and geometric roundels, signed in seal form on the fish's snout Kosai; a boxwood pipecase carved as a lotus plant with a seed-pod and a budding flower, the loose seeds in wood and stained ivory, the bud in shell, with a frog in stained ivory at its base, wood ojime in the form of a frog, unsigned; and a carved lacquer pipecase, the tube and stopper both carved with a mass of clematis in low relief, unsigned (some old damage)
7½in. (19cm.), 87/8in. (22.5cm.) and 10½in. (26.7cm.) long respectively (3)
