TWO SMALL FOUR-CASE INRO AND A THREE-CASE MINIATURE INRO
A small four-case inro, black lacquer ground; decoration in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with overlay of lead and shell; compartments, risers, shoulders and rims gold lacquer; signed in gold hiramaki-e underneath Tsuchida Soetsu with a kao, Edo period (Late 18th/19th century), (pieces of shell missing); a wheel-mounted cannon; on the reverse a praying mantis; and another, black lacquer ground; decoration in gold and aokin with foil, shell and areas of togidashi-e; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; a ho-o bird and paulownia tree; the reverse with waves, unsigned, Edo period (late 18th/19th century); and a miniature inro, black lacquer ground; decoration in gold, silver and black hiramaki-e with gold foil; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; horses and trees, unsigned, Edo period (19th century)
