A KINAI NO MASK TSUBA AND THREE OTHERS
Muromachi/Edo period (15th/19th century)
The iron Kinai tsuba carved and pierced with five No masks, the rim of the tsuba formed by the masks and their cords, signed on the reverse Echizen no ju Kinai, 7.4cm.; a large, thin, circular katchushi tsuba, pierced with six cherry blossoms, separated by pairs of rectangular bars, 8.6cm.; a mokko shaped nanban tsuba carved with shishi, the rest carved and pierced with peony buds and scrolling foliage, the edges beaded front and back, 8.25cm.; and a slightly ovoid iron tsuba, carved and pierced with a kirin racing over clouds above waves, signed Choshu Hagi ju Tsunenaga saku, 8.1cm.
