A TSUBA BY HEIANJO NAGAYOSHI AND THREE OTHERS
Muromachi/Edo period (16th/19th century)
An iron tsuba inlaid in brass, shell and copper with seven monkeys, all taking an interest in vases of flowers, one of which appears on each side, signed Yamashiro no ju Heianjo Nagayoshi, 6.5cm.; an attractive shibuichi rectangular tsuba inlaid with peonies in various metals, the reverse is carved with a shishi and inlaid with the kao of a painter in copper, with signature Haruaki Hogen with a kao, 6.2cm.; a circular iron tsuba carved on the face with two ducks on water and on the reverse with foliage under the moon, with signature Yoshu Mitsuoki, 6.9cm.; and a hexagonal shibuichi tsuba carved and inlaid in silver and gold with geese passing the moon as they alight amid a variety of flowers and grasses, with signature Ikkin and a kao, 6.75cm.
