A TSUCHIYA SCHOOL TSUBA AND TWO OTHERS
Edo period (18/19th century)
A pale shibuichi tsuba carved with a group of tradesmen and travellers taking shelter from heavy rain under the roof of a gateway, signed Sekienshi Tsuchiya Masachika kinto with a kao (Yasuchika 'VI') and dated Kaei san [1850], 7.5cm.; a smaller oval shibuichi tsuba carved and inlaid with the story of Shiba Onko, the reverse with a banana tree beside a rock in the garden, with signature Hosono Masamori and a kao, 6.55cm.; and a pale shibuichi tsuba carved and inlaid with a cat with a sparrow, clutched in its fore-paws, the reverse with a stand of bamboo, with signature Nagatsune and a kao, 7.45cm.
