A GOOD TSUBA BY KIKUCHI TSUNEKATSU, A SMALLER TSUBA SIGNED YANAGAWA NAOTOSHI AND ANOTHER BY GOTO ENJO
Edo period (18th/19th century)
A circular tsuba carved with a hunting scene of three archers hunting geese and wild boar, signed Kikuchi Tsunekatsu with a kao, 7.45cm.; a shibuichi tsuba carved and inlaid in gold with five travellers signed Yanagawa Naotoshi with a kao, 6.3cm.; and a shakudo ishime tsuba colourfully inlaid on the face with an inro, an omamori [charm] or purse, two ojime and a netsuke, the reverse with a partly open fan in shakudo and shibuichi with a silver rivet and a silver gourd, with gold cords and stopper, with signature Goto Mitsutaka (Enjo) with a kao, 6.8cm. Lot Essay

Kikuchi Tsunekatsu was of the school of Inagawa Naokatsu. He specialised in katakiri-bori and worked in Edo in the second half of the 18th century.
Yanagawa Naotoshi worked in Edo in the second half of the 18th century and was a pupil of Yanagawa Naomasa.
