A TSUBA BY SEIRYUKEN EIJU AND EIGHT OTHERS
Edo period (18th/19th century)
A nearly circular tsuba pierced with a rabbit and signed Seiryuken Eiju, with a gold inlaid kao, 6.9cm.; a slightly larger tsuba of similar shape carved and inlaid with two birds, sitting in a plum tree, under a silver moon, 8.1cm.; a tsuba in the form of a minogame, suggested by a star formation which is inlaid in gold dots and lines around the carapace, signed in archaic Chinese style, 7.4cm.; a tsuba pierced and carved with peony blooms and a butterfly, signed Choshu Hagi no ju Sakunoshin Tomohisa, 7.2cm.; a larger tsuba, the outline formed from two ho-o, carved and pierced, 8.4cm.; a tsuba carved and pierced in the form of a lotus leaf, signed Sashu (Sado) ju Toshiuji, 7.1cm.; a cast iron tsuba with a dragon curled around a bell, 7cm.; a tsuba pierced with flying wild geese and ginger leaves, signed Kofu ju Tatsutoshi, 7.1cm.; and another pierced and carved with a mounted Tartar archer shooting an arrow at a flight of geese, while his servant watches beneath a pine tree, 7.1cm.
