Lot Essay

This dish forms part of an extensive group, many of which are in the Herzog Anton Ulrich Collection, Brunswick; see Johanna Lessmann, Italienische Majolika (1979), nos. 336 etc. All inscribed by the same hand, they are in large part taken from woodcuts published in Lyons. The inscription on the present lot is typical.
