Lot Essay

'Barbara Hepworth purchased a small studio apartment overlooking Porthmeor Beach in St Ives in 1961, close to where the Tate Gallery St Ives now stands. She used it as a weekend retreat from Trewyn Studio, and made a number of paintings there'.
