Lot Essay

'An imaginary lady wrestler, derived from a picture in a 'girlie' magazine, she is surrounded by lucky devices and charms as well as objects referring to horse-racing etc. where luck is so important. The rainbow colouring of the name hints at the legendary 'Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow'. She seems to be Irish. Outside the 'luck zone', on top of the frame are four china figures representing her at four ages, all in a tea-shop style quite different from the sophisticated style of the main figure. Since it was reproduced in the Robert Fraser 1965 catalogue it has been developed by adding the four objects in a row below the valentine and number 7 and the two outermost badges on the belt, the jacket has been extended, the hairstyle brought up-to-date and other alterations made' (see Tate Gallery exhibition catalogue, London, 1983, p. 92).
