Manuscript estate map, signed 'Will: Tampon Supuisor', maximum dimensions: 845 x 685mm, brown ink and colours on vellum. Elaborate strapwork title cartouche, large decorative compass rose with robin above, scale-bar and dividers enclosed by a triangle of stylised carnations and roses, buildings in birds-eye perspective, ownership boundaries in red, green and yellow, stylised flowerhead and foliate border. (Hole to upper right affecting the dividers, small areas of loss affecting margins, minor soiling).

AN IMPORTANT AND ATTRACTIVE estate map showing land belonging to John Bright in Naughton, near Stowmarket in Suffolk, by one of the most prolific East Anglian estate surveyors of the 17th Century. Characteristic of Tampon's fine estate maps, the earliest known example being 1637, are the highly decorative flowers and emblems which adorn his plans. He principally worked in Suffolk and Norfolk but is recorded in Canterbury, Kent, in 1653. Bendall T020
