On Castle House headed paper is written a letter attached to the backboard: 'July 27th '54/Very sorry for this long delay/but I seem to be for ever &/ever getting letters and as I/don't want to be bothered/with secretaries: they seldom/get answered./One - the jockey was for Blue/the other for Mustard - done/in my late teens at PageBros./Please forgive delay/Alfred Munnings'

Lot Essay

The present work was executed by Munnings during his six year apprenticeship as a poster artist with Page Brothers, lithographers of Norwich. He worked there from nine in the morning until seven at night, before studying at Norwich Art School until nine at night.
