Faced with the unwelcome prospect of an empty home season the TCCB devised a series of five matches between England and the rest of the world. England caps where awarded, and the Test Matches accorded unoffical status. Wisden gave the individual figures separately as befitted an one-off occasion belonging to no regular series.
