The News Chronicle was an amalgamation of the Daily News and the Daily Chronicle, launched on June 2 1930.
On Monday 17 October 1960 the News Chronicle was no more. The paper and its sister title, The Star, had been sold to Associated Newspapers and merged into the Daily Mail and the Evening News.
The loss of the paper, the most liberal of all Fleet Street titles, was keenly felt by all journalists. Under the editorship of Norman Cursley, a paper with sales of more than 1,116,000 should have survived.
