The captured antelope held down under the front paws of the rawing lion, on naturalistically-cast base inscribed E. DELABRIERRE and with title plaque to the front inscribed LION DU SENEGAL/SUR ANTILOPE/EXPOSITION 1866/NO. 2721, green/reddish-brown/black patina

Influenced by the exotic animal subjects and hunting scenes of Antoine-Louis Barye, Paul-Edouard Delabrierre exhibited at the Salon between 1848-82. The present group Lion du Senegal sur Antilope was exhibited in 1866.
