A Dutch oak Friesland staartklok with automaton and alarm, second half 19th century
The typical case with carved finials to the breakarch hood, glazed side panels (one lacking), the 'tail' with gilt-metal frame to the pendulum viewing aperture, the painted iron dial with aperture for automaton soldier in the arch, moving to the swing of the pendulum, the spandrels painted with women and the centre with a seascape, with brass alarm-setting disc and hands, weight-driven movement with anchor escapement -- 42in. (107cm.) high
