The repainted case with later giltwood onion finials to the caddy top, glazed side panels and columns flanking the hood door, the trunk door painted with chinoiserie scenes and the stepped plinth with similar scene, the 12in. brass dial with silvered disc to the arch inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT (possibly later, spandrels later), with mask and foliate spandrels to the silvered 2in. wide chapter ring signed Jos. Lum Chelmsford, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring engraved with a star design to the centre, date aperture below with engraved hatched border, the five pillar (one now lacking) rack striking movement with anchor escapement, with later seatboard; third quarter 18th century, associated -- 92in. (234cm.) high
