The later rectangular grey marble top above a frieze drawer stamped CHAPUIS, above a hinged fall-front stamped three times CHAPUIS and with a green leather-lined writing surface to the reverse, enclosing a fitted interior with five open compartments and eight drawers, flanked by caryatid pilasters, above a pair of doors, enclosing a fitted interior with three drawers simulating four short drawers, on block feet, restorations

Lot Essay

The present lot was executed by Jean-Joseph Chapuis (1765-1864) who was active from 1806 until at least 1818. He was a celebrated furniture maker in Brussels and supplied Chateau Laeken with several pieces of furniture from 1806 onwards.
