1955 INTER BERLINE A.E.M.S.
Chassis No.1272
White with red interior.
Engine: rear-mounted single cylinder Ydral 2-stroke, 175cc; Gearbox: three speed manual and reverse; Suspension: System Nieman; Brakes: three wheel cable.
The Inter was launched at the Paris Salon in 1953, manufactured by the SNCAN (Societe Nationale de Construction Aeronautique) aircraft factory in Lyon.
Powered by an Ydral single cylinder 2-stroke engine via a three speed manual transmission, output was 8.5hp, whilst the rear wheel drive propelled the car to 50mph. Weighing just 170kg, its unique and unusual styling made it one of the quirkiest microcars ever produced.
The canopy opens sideways in a similar fashion to the Messerschmitt and seating is tandem-style. An optional folding front axle was incorporated to allow the car to pass through narrow gateways! They were only produced in small numbers and their styling was very aeronautical-looking - a long, slim cigar shape with a single, central headlamp and external front wheels with individual mudguards.
This Inter is presented in very good condition having been resprayed in white several years ago. The lifting canopy section works well and the original plexiglass windows are still fitted. The body appears to be in excellent, corrosion-free condition, as do the underside floor pans and chassis components. The interior is in vinyl and although showing signs of wear is intact.
A chance to acquire one of Bruce Weiner's most unusual and desirable microcars. It is sold with an old style German log book.
