1954 MOCHET VELOCAR GRAND LUXE
Chassis No. 3469
Black with brown interior.
Engine: single cylinder, YRAL two stroke, 3.5bhp, 125cc; Gearbox: three speed and reverse; Brakes: four wheel, cable operated; Suspension: front, independent sliding pillar, rear leaf springs. Left hand drive.
The Mochet Car Company was founded by Charles Mochet in 1924, with the first model, known as the Velocar, remaining in production until 1930. After the war he introduced the CM-125, which represented true microcar motoring as they could be conducted without a driving licence! Initially they were simple in design, being lightweight cars without suspension and fitted with basic and attractive bodywork. The chassis frame was crab-tracked and soon featured independent suspension and cable brakes to all four wheels. The CM-125 acted as a prototype for all the later models, such as the Luxe, Grand Luxe and Commerciale.
This attractive Velocar Grand Luxe (which was so named due to the more modern, horizontal body style fitted to the CM-125 chassis) is in exceptionally original condition and is believed to have covered less than 7000kms from new. It was purchased from the Bad Iburg Microcar Museum in Germany, where it had spent many years. Found in excellent original order and it is still fitted with its original brown vinyl interior. This car has been subject to full restoration to the highest standards, finished in black with cream wheels. A new hood and hoodbag in canvas complement the original seat upholstery. It is fitted with its original working trafficators.
It is sold with a photocopy of a French title document.
