Details
1958 ROLLERA SINGLE SEATER
Chassis No. ROO2020
Red with black interior.
Engine: Comprema AMC Mustang, single cylinder, 99cc; Gearbox: three speed, no reverse; Brakes: rear wheel, cable operated; Suspension: rubber torsion.
Egon Brutsch was one of the most influential and prolific microcar designers, but ironically his own marque only sold in very limited numbers. His automotive journey began by making single seaters for children, which was soon followed by the production of microcars aimed at the adult market place. After the 'Spatz' (Sparrow) and the 'Zwerg' (Dwarf) came his best selling model, the 'Mopetta', which sold just fourteen cars as the authorities refused to declare it suitable for the road! The French-built 'Rollera' was introduced shortly after production of the Mopetta had ceased. It was almost identical in shape, although slightly larger and featured a 98cc engine which dramatically improved the performance.
The production run of this extraordinary machine totalled just eight cars, of which only three are known to have survived. This particular example has been the subject of a complete restoration to the highest standard in its current ownership. It is finished in red with a black seat and is powered by its original Comprema AMC Mustang engine, which was also overhauled during the rebuild.
A particularly sporting and attractive microcar, the Rollera was originally advertised as capable of floating on water, although we would not recommend testing the claim since it may account for the low survival numbers!
