Lot Essay

In Périgord, a south west region of France, Flint found 'ancient enclosures and arcaded streets with cunning vistas that refused to be ignored'. The present work shows a courtyard in the small town of Bretenoux (see R. Lewis and K. Gardner, Sir William Russell Flint, London, 1988, p. 22).
